Jno. & Wm. Mitchell Glasgow c.1850
An exquisite small two-train mantel clock, with a signed silvered engraved brass dial with border floral engraving. The movement with pull hour repeat sits in a mahogany case of rococo design, on brass bracket feet.
Stock No. 3140
Price £4,800
This clock is particularly small, with an overall height to the top of the finial of just 10 ½” (270mm). It strikes on a very decorative coiled gong, and the dial engraving is particularly fine.
John and William Mitchell were very fine and successful makers who are recorded working in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, in c. 1835, and Argyle Street, Glasgow from c. 1820 to 1860. They also had a branch in London from c. the 1850s.
