William Grayson Henley on Thames c.1795
A fine Georgian wall clock, the 11 3/4" diameter engraved silvered brass dial signed 'William Grayson, Henley on Thames', the original verge movement fronted by pierced steel matching hands in a mahogany case with double 'salt box' projections, with a narrow turned dial surround carrying a moulded concave brass bezel with integral bezel lock.
Stock No.3279
The dial has roman hour, and arabic five minute numerals, and is held into the case by two pinned lugs at 3 and 9 o'clock. The fancy door hinges are as acquired, but may not be the original ones. William Grayson is recorded apprenticed in 1780, and worked, probably latterly with a son of the same name, in Henley until 1860.
