A French 'exhibition' skeleton timepiece with alarm under a glass dome. The alarm mechanism is located in the ebonised base, with remote pull winding and setting from outside the glass dome. The delicately engraved brass frame has silk suspension, and carries a small porcelain enamel chapter and pierced moon hands. Total height, (without dome) = 9".

There was a range of clocks designed and made for the 1851 London Great Exhibition, that were immensely popular, of which this is one. They were exhibited at subsequent Paris fairs as well. The pendulum bob is engraved along with the frame, and is regulated via a decorative circular turn above the dial.
