A well proportioned early Victorian wall timepiece by these celebrated makers, the 12” diameter convex iron dial signed ‘Thwaites and Reed, Clerkenwell, London’, the fusee movement numbered 10063 fronted by elegant matching steel hands, in a mahogany case with turned dial surround, and cast brass bezel.

The celebrated firm Thwaites and Reed was founded in the late eighteenth century by John Thwaites; in 1814 it became Thwaites and Reed, and continued in business until the late twentieth century.
