Milton Dublin c.1840
A rare and unusual Irish bracket clock with alarm, the break arch painted dial signed boldly ‘Milton Dublin’, with strike / silent indicator in the arch, flanked by gilded decorative swags, and with similar painted gilded decorative spandrels. The central alarm setting dial is silvered brass, and has a pull mechanism mounted to backplate of the movement, which is signed ‘Milton fecit’. The eight day movement strikes the hours on a bell. The mahogany case has typical Irish rope carving to the cornice and plinth, an unusual ‘Dublin castle’ escutcheon, and brass side sound frets.
