Handley and Moore for William Gammon,
Birmingham c.1815
A Regency bracket clock, the 8” diameter convex iron dial signed ‘Willm. Gammon, Birmingham’. The three train fusee movement chiming the quarters on eight bells and the hour on a further bell, repeating at will, signed on the front plate Handley & Moore, and numbered 2672, the backplate with border engraving. The round top single pad mahogany case has a carrying handle, fish scale side frets and three foliate frets to the fully opening front door, revealing a further fret and a ‘silent / chime’ lever at 12 o’clock. It sits on brass bracket feet. Height (excluding handle) – 18”.

William Gammon, son of William Gammon clockmaker in Hereford, worked in London before moving to Birmingham in 1812 where he worked until 1821. Handley & Moore, who made many movements for other clockmakers, worked in Clerkenwell, London, 1801 – 1820.
