A Georgian wall timepiece, the 12" diameter silvered engraved brass dial signed 'Francis Atkins, London', the movement with original verge escapement, in a mahogany case with double salt box projections.

The mahogany case has an unusually deep turned surround. The concave moulded bezel has an integral lock, and the 'A' shaped movement has four heavily knopped pillars.

Francis Atkins was born in 1730, and was apprenticed to Joshua Hassel in 1746. He became a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1759, and its Master in 1780, then clerk in 1785. He worked at 35 Clements Lane, and died in 1808.
