Donald Newcastle. c.1845
A good unusual early Victorian wall timepiece, the 12” diameter convex painted iron dial signed 'Donald, Newcastle', with double passing strike on a bell at the hour and half past, in a mahogany case with cast brass bezel.
Stock No. 3150
The good heavy movement has shouldered plates with knopped pillars, and is fronted by matching steel 'pierced moon' hands. Probably by James Donald who was apprenticed to Robert Bryson of Edinburgh, who was working in Newcastle on Tyne from 1827 – 1855, when his son joined the firm and they traded as Donald and Son.
