French Royal Exchange London c. 1860
A good English dial wall timepiece, the 12” diameter painted iron dial signed French, Royal Exchange, London, the fusee movement with high quality platform lever escapement fronted by ‘pierced moon’ steel hands, in a dark mahogany case with a square base, with a cast brass locking bezel.
William French is recorded working at 9 Royal Exchange in 1850.
This clock was almost certainly built into the bulkhead of boat, with the simple back case, and the lever escapement.
