Wm. Critchley Liverpool. c.1816
A George III sedan chair timepiece, the 4” diameter convex porcelain enamel dial with arabic hour numerals, with a verge balance wheel movement signed and numbered 999, fronted by elegant brass ‘arrow’ hands, in a turned ebonised case with a brass moulded bezel.
Stock No: 3258
It is interesting that the name on the movement, Wm. Critchley, has been scratched on the rear of the rear door, and ‘1816’ pencilled on the rear of the case, as shown in the photographs. It also runs for two and a half days rather than the normal 30 hours.
William Critchley is recorded working in Liverpool from 1810 to 1829, at 47 Standish Street in 1814, and in 1828 at 35 Ben Jonson Street.
