A fine rare Scottish tavern clock, with a 25” diameter wooden dial (28 ½” overall), the movement with a five wheel train, fronted by original pierced brass hands, in a case signed at the throat, with gilded decoration, and a print on the door showing a band of strolling players including a bagpiper. Total height - 57”

John Gartly was born in 1749, and died in 1827, having got married in 1783. He was a significant local maker, making clocks for Kings College, Aberdeen, as well as the Tolbooth, and the Cathedral.
