3318 J Waylett London c. 1800

// SOLD //

J Waylett London c.1800

A Georgian wall timepiece, the 12” diameter brass dial signed ‘J Waylett London’, the original verge escapement with detachable pendulum, in a mahogany case with turned dial surround carrying a heavy moulded brass bezel with integral lock.

Stock No. 3318

This clock has a movement transitional between full fixed pendulum verge, and anchor escapements. It therefore has a very light pendulum, and a case with a round rather than square base. It also has an interesting old trade label on the inside of the bottom door

Probably by John, son of James, Waylett, who is recorded working at 9, Ball Alley, Lombard Street from 1794 - 1813. His father was working at 7 Mark Lane from 1769 - 1799, and it is possible that the clock came from his and not his son’s workshop.
